The first animal has been born here at West Woolley Farm since we arrived.
Zenith, one of our Belted Galloway mums, gave birth to a boy calf at around 8.00pm (we were too late to attend the birth) on Friday 1st May. Weight unknown. He is doing really well. We separated mum and calf from the others for 24 hours as George and the rest were getting too curious.
He has now been introduced into the herd and all is well.

Our Easter lambs have arrived!!!
Born a few days ago we picked up two lambs from our farmer neighbour John. One boy and one girl both were from triplets and were not getting enough from their mum. So it’s off to Bridgman’s the agricultural merchant to get a couple of bottles some teats and ewe’s milk.
Bottle feeding at 3 hourly intervals. Thought we stopped that years ago.

West Woolley Farm has been awarded Silver following an assessment by the Green Tourism Business Scheme.
We will get the full report in the New Year to seee how we can get Gold next year.

Great News.. George has had his annual TB test and passed with flying colours.
So laid back George tried out the crush (a machine for holding him still whilst they carry out the test - not as bad as it sounds) three times whilst waiting for the vet, Kate.
Beau came along to keep him company.
Today Kate came back to see if George had reacted to the test but good news - no reaction so he does not have TB.
George is getting so tame now that the vet tested him in the field with no need for the crush.
He did stand on her toe but luckily she had steel toe cap wellies!
The following week Beau and Flash were tested - all OK

More Belted Galloways
Two cows, Hazel and Zenith with their calves Lynette and …. well he being a steer didn’t have a pedigree name but we are going to call him Tom as he came from Widdecombe in the Moor (…Tom Cobbly and all.. from Widdecombe Fair)
Or should we say we have six new arrivals! The Vet confirmed that Hazel and Zenith are pregnant with the calves due in the spring.

A big thank you to all our guests this year.
We collected £48.45 in our RNLI box following your donations from using body boards, surf boards, wet suits, buckets and spades or just because it is a good cause.
To all those who left their pound coins in the meter box, sorry if we did not make it clear that these could also be recycled. All coins found in the box have been recyled into the RNLI box.
Thankfully none of our guests made use of the RLI to rescue them but unwittingly we all make use of their service when we use a beach with a RNLI lifeguards and they are totally dependant on donations.

No Frontiers Irish television’s holiday programme stayed here in July 06 to record a holiday in Cornwall. It was first shown on RTE in March resulting in about ten families staying with us during the summer. It was repeated in October 2007.

Our neighbours at East Woolley Farm have just had twins. Freda was not too well a couple of months ago and has just rewarded Mike and Julia’s efforts to keep her going by giving birth to a pair of twins. A fine bull calf was born at 7.40 am and his sister heifer followed soon after. We were honored to be present at the birth. Please see some pics in the gallery.
Freda has moved on to join a herd and is thoroughly enjoying herself as a major organic milk producer. The twins have also moved to pastures new.
